I don’t normally write about the future of the web, as it’s been shown on way too many occasions that predicting behaviour and the technology that will be used is impossible. We all just keep on ignoring what the futurists think…
Having said that though, Jeremiah Owyang (great blog to subscribe to) is part way through [...]

In a great example of using an audience to self-generate excitement, YouTube called on professionals and amateur musicians of all ages, locations and instruments to the audition for the UGC YouTube Symphony Orchestra.

The actual piece was written by Tan Dun, with the musicians asked to submit a video of them performing the piece.

Over 3,000 worldwide [...]

I normally avoid making predictions about what’s going to happen anywhere beyond the next 6 months (arguably less in the current climate), but here’s a list of predictions I found that make sense.
The advertising outlook for 2009 remains relatively upbeat for certain types of online media and marketing – including search, video and multicultural initiatives [...]

… the first feature film created entirely by an Internet community is set to debut in January.
Whether or not horror flicks sit in your DVD collection, Perkins’ 14’s more interesting story lies in its creation.

The film is the product of Massify, a film production community that provides tools for members to share ideas, collaborate on projects, [...]

Thinking of viral videos? Think hard and long would be my advice…very hard to get right, but very easy to get wrong.
Whilst we’ve all seen great version of what works (see Stay out of the doghouse & What makes a campaign go viral?) there’s a litany of those that haven’t.
I’ve found various pieces of research that look into [...]

I’ve tried to ban anyone from saying the word “viral”.
It’s like a poison that infects and spreads to everyone within ear-shot. Not only is it in everyone’s veracular as a must have strategy, it’s assumed it’s easy. It’s not…it’s exceptionally difficult and some major brands (& major cash) has been thrown into the bottomless pit [...]

Here’s a few examples to explain the concept;
- You want to get somewhere, but don’t have a car and hate the trains? No problem, look at PickUpPal

NEW YORK – I know the last time your were standing in Times Square you were thinking, “There’s not enought here to look at, or enough bright lights, I wish they would let me play a game while I’m standing here doing nothing”…right?
Next time you happen to be in Times Square, get ready for some gaming [...]

It’s time to have a long, hard look at your corporate website. Are you still expecting consumers to believe that the happy, smiling, loved up customers on your home page are real? And that the execs so proudly displayed as captains of industry really do care? Of course that’s what you want them to think [...]

Peter Kim has been compiling a list of companies that are engaging with their consumers in the social media space.
It’s a great list that is surprisingly long, but like most things with the good comes the bad, so there’s a few that I don’t think would be working too well. What’s most encouraging about this [...]

Came across a nice example of a brand integrating a TV sponsorship through the line.
Carphone Warehouse in the UK have sponsored X-Factor, and are giving anyone brave enough to sing a Madonna song (amongst others) a chance to have their bad singing played during an ad break in the show.
You can record through your PC, or [...]

and how can you use it? Following on from my piece on social media I though it would be worthwhile expanding on the consumer content side, or User Generated Content (UGC). This is also referred to as Consumer Generated Media (CGM).
UGC is the fastest growing and most influential element of the modern media mix. Consumers want [...]

Don’t want to leave your MySpace page to find out about that annoying hurricane approaching your house?
Don’t worry about it, you can keep track of the latest wind speed & still talk to your friends online. In a great example of a partnership that allows one enterprise to push content to a consumer, MySpace has partnered [...]
